Mistakes in Floor Finishing – Part 1
Have you ever finished a floor, only to look at it and think, ‘something is wrong? Panic sets in and you feel that your floor is destroyed. Anyone who has ever applied floor finish will likely have a few mistakes that they have made during the process. Some errors are due to rushing through a phase of the job, while others can be accredited to not accounting for environmental factors like heat and humidity. We are here to break down several mistakes consumers make when finishing their floors and how to fix them.

Let’s start with stripping a floor.
Mistake #1 … Leaving a Little Behind
If the floor was stripped, was it stripped completely? Any areas where the old finish was not completely removed will show up as ‘dull patches’ when the floor is refinished. Using a professional quality stripper like Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner will help, but proper technique is critical.
Mistake #2 … Rushing the Rinse
Are you taking time for a final rinse? Use clean water, a clean mop, and Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner when stripping the finish. If the floor is not completely clean and neutralized prior to the application of floor finish, performance and appearance issues will quickly become evident and you may have to start over. A final clean water rinse is viable to achieve the WOW Factor.

Hi. I use the quick shine floor cleaner on my wood floors. I’ve noticed a build up in areas normally along the baseboards. I don’t know if it’s dust that got pushed into the baseboard areas with my mop or what it is. But it’s thick and brick hard. Is there something more than the floor cleaner that I can use in those areas?

You can remove the buildup with our Quick Shine Deep Cleaner. Simply apply the Deep Cleaner and let sit for 2-3 minutes, then mop away the solution. They use quick shine floor finish on a floor that was still dirrty and it was done years ago in there still a heavy wax finish do you have of floor stripper? Do you have a floor stripper

Yes, we recommend using Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner to safely remove our Finish from your floors so you can start fresh again. This product was specifically developed to remove polymer and wax finishes without harming hardwood floors or other types of hard surface floors such as tile, vinyl, stone, marble, and laminate. It is also important to note that Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner can also be used to treat small imperfection areas of the floor without treating the entire floor.
Simply dilute the Deep Cleaner in HOT water and apply to the floor surface in small 5’ x 5’ squares at a time, let stand for a few minutes and agitate. Remove debris and build-up from each 5’ x 5’ area of the floor with a clear water rinse. For heavy buildup, you may need to increase the dilution of 1 cup per gallon to 3 cups per gallon. Deep Cleaner is concentrated, therefore one 27 oz. bottle will make roughly 2 gallons, which covers about 500 square feet and will not damage the sealant on hardwood floors. It is also important to note that Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner can also be used to treat small imperfection areas of the floor without treating the entire floor. After treating the small problem area let dry after rinsing and simply wipe a coat of the Quick Shine® Floor Finish on the treated area. This area will then blend in with the rest of the finished floor due to the advanced leveling agents in the formula. After 24 hours we moved our heavy dining room table back and even using towels under the legs the floors show scratch marks. The finish is scratched not the actual floor. Trying to add additional luster makes an awful mess. The more we rubbed the worse the floor got. How can I fix this?

We recommend spot treating and removing any scuffing with a mixture of 1 cup Ammonia and 1/2 gallon of HOT water. Apply solution to area and let sit 2-3 minutes before wiping away. Once the area is clean and dry, simply reapply a new coat of Finish and blend.
