You Ask, We Answer: Quick Shine® Q & A

boy and girl playing on floor in background with Quick Shine products on floor in front

Quick Shine® Floor Care products are fantastic tools to revive and keep your floors looking new again!  Just like any other household product, customers might have some questions about it.  So today we are covering some common questions asked by our consumers.

Q:  Where can I find your Quick Shine® Floor Finish or Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster product?
A:  Our Floor Finish and Hardwood Luster are in most major retailers and some of your local ones as well.  Check out our Store Locator to see all the retailers where you can purchase our product.

Q:  When I was applying the Floor Finish to my floors, I sat the bottle on my table and it has dripped onto the surface.  How can I get this off without damaging my table?
A:  Anytime you accidentally get any drops of our Floor Finish or Hardwood Floor Luster on your table or counter, even after it’s dried, you can use Windex or Formula 409 to remove it.  Spray it on the area, let it sit for a minute or so then wipe it up with a damp cloth or sponge.  This method also works for customers who might have any over-splash on the bottom of their walls or appliances when applying the Floor Finish or Hardwood Luster on their floors.

Q:  What can I use to clean my floors with after I’ve applied the Quick Shine® Floor Finish?
A:  Routine cleaning using our Quick Shine® Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner via our Multi-Surface Spray Mop and microfiber pad is the best process.  However, after applying the Floor Finish we recommend waiting 4-5 days before using the cleaner on your floors to give it time to fully cure.  You can always dust mop during the first few days to keep your floors free of dirt and debris.

Q:  I used the Floor Cleaner on my floors, but they are not shiny.  The bottle says Quick Shine® so can you help me understand what went wrong?
A:  This is a common misconception.  Quick Shine® is the brand name of our Floor Care products line; however depending on what your floor care needs are will depend on which Quick Shine® product you’d want to use.  If you are looking for a floor cleaner, you can use our Quick Shine® Floor Cleaner or Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Cleaner as a regular cleaning agent.  If you are looking to give your floors a shine or to revive your hardwoods, you can use our Quick Shine® Floor Finish or Quick Shine® Hardwood Floor Luster to give your floors that WOW factor.

Q:  I applied the Quick Shine® Floor Finish to my floor and now, it looks streaky and cloudy.  What did I do wrong?
A:  Streaking is usually caused by a few issues: 1.) Not enough product was initially applied and you can correct that with an additional coat; 2.) There was residue on the floor before the Floor Finish was applied.  For example, other brand floor cleaning agents, or a vinegar solution; 3.) The same applicator pad used to clean your floors is being used to apply the Floor Finish; 4.) Not allowing sufficient time before applying subsequent coats; 5.) Trying to apply too many coats in a short period of time, not allowing each coat to dry completely.

How long should I wait before putting furniture back? How long should I wait before actually walking on the floor barefoot?

    Thank You.

      Hi Lynn,

Quick Shine Floor Finishes dry within 45-60 minutes. You can walk barefoot on your floors after it fully dries. It is important to keep moisture off of the floor for a few days as it fully cures so we recommend dry dusting during that time to keep dust/debris at a minimum. You should be able to place furniture back in place after a few hours, however it is always recommended to lift vs scooting heavy furniture to avoid scuffing.

I have been using Quick shine for years, now there’s a build-up, how can I clean it and start over. My mistakes were applying over and over on top of the old. It has been over 10 years just putting new on top of the old, I’m just realizing it’s not a mop and go 😔

          Hi Gloria,

To correct your situation, we recommend using Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner to safely remove our Finish from your floors. This product was specifically developed to remove polymer and wax finishes without harming hardwood floors or other types of hard surface floors such as tile, vinyl, stone, marble, and laminate. It is also important to note that Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner can also be used to treat small imperfection areas of the floor without treating the entire floor.

Simply dilute the Deep Cleaner in HOT water and apply to the floor surface in small 5’ x 5’ squares at a time, let stand for a few minutes and agitate. Remove debris and build-up from each 5’ x 5’ area of the floor with a clear water rinse. For heavy buildup, you may need to increase the dilution of 1 cup per gallon to 3 cups per gallon. Deep Cleaner is concentrated, therefore one 27 oz. bottle will make roughly 2 gallons, which covers about 500 square feet and will not damage the sealant on hardwood floors. It is also important to note that Quick Shine® Deep Cleaner can also be used to treat small imperfection areas of the floor without treating the entire floor. After treating the small problem area let dry after rinsing and simply wipe a coat of the Quick Shine® Floor Finish on the treated area. This area will then blend in with the rest of the finished floor due to the advanced leveling agents in the formula. The Quick Shine Deep Cleaner is only available online at http://www.walmart.com, http://www.quickshine.net or by calling our Customer Service Center.

      Hi Anthony,

Yes, we recommend to damp mop your floors first with a pH neutral floor cleaner or with plain tap water. Once the floor is clean and dry, simply reapply a new coat of Finish to restore the shine. Our Finish is not a wax, therefore it will not yellow over time.

I have a newly installed ceramic tile (on a diag.) and and did not know we would have grout. My floor is lifeless — no shine. Also, what about the grout? Can u advise me as to what to do about my new floor. I don’t want the grout to get dark and the tiles to get blahh looking. I would love your input. Thank u so much. TC

      Hi Theresa,
You can apply Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Finish on your sealed ceramic tile and grout to provide a protective high gloss shine. This will not darken your grout if your floor has been sealed.

We applied quick shine floor finish to our luxury vinyl tile and the floors looked excellent. They looked great. When we moved some furniture back into its place with a blanket underneath the furniture it’s still left scuff marks. How do we remove the scuff marks?

          Hi Sandy,
If you have already tried to buff out the scuff marks with no success, we recommend spot treating the area with a mixture of 2-3 tbsp. of Ammonia with 1 cup of HOT water. Apply solution to area and let sit 2-3 minutes before wiping away. Once the area is clean and dry, simply reapply a new coat of Finish to blend and even out the appearance of the floor. This method has worked for other consumers with similar issues.

I love Quick Shine it makes my floors look beautiful! However, we recently got a puppy and her shedding has caused her hair to stick to the floor even after vacuuming or sweeping beforehand and waiting for floor to be completely dry.
Although, I will still continue to use Quick Shine, I will be using it as a cleaner and not as a shine for that wow effect. I’d like to remove the shine for easier cleaning and start over, but I am unable to remove the shine that is on now. I have used formula 409 and Windex and have followed the directions as explained on your website with no luck. Please tell me what I’m doing wrong or if you have any other suggestions. Thank you.

          Hi Cyndi,

Thank you for your brand loyalty. To remove the finish from your floors, we recommend using our Quick Shine Deep Cleaner. Windex or Formula 409 are great for small spots but not recommended for removing the entire finish from your floors.

I made the mistake of using QUICK SHINE on our bamboo floors throughout our house. And I mean it was a huge mistake. Our bamboo is tongue and groove boards and this product got in between each board. I have started having to use A knife to dig every bit of this junk out of my floors one board at a time. Trying to mop it up it’s impossible. I have scrubbed and scrubbed yet when it dries there will be build up where my mop stopped that you cannot get up. What I have mopped up dries like white glue. It looks like I’m going to have to strip these floors and they cost us a fortune. Yes there is a floor cleaner made by these manufacturers but I would not dare put another one of their products anywhere near my house. It is a disaster.

I have used quick shine on my hardwood floors for year and have been very satisfied; however, I used it on my new, commercial grade vinyl planking, in my basement and there was a water leak with sat in the floor for a day before being discovered and the areas where the water sat are now cloudy and I am unable to clear them up.

      Hi John,

You can spot treat the compromised area with a mixture of 3-4 tbsp. of Ammonia and 1 cup of HOT water. Apply solution to the area and let sit 1-2 minutes before wiping away. Once the area is clean and dry, simply reapply a new coat of Finish to the area and blend. This method has worked for other consumers with similar issues.

I used the deep clean to remove the heavy wax buildup but it is still there will mineral sprits work to remove everything right away from the floor? Since mineral sprits are safe for hardwood floors.

      Hi David,
Unfortunately you will need an amine base to remove the finish so mineral spirits will not work. You can make a stronger dilution if you have a heavy buildup. The Deep Cleaner is guaranteed to remove our Finish as it was formulated specifically to dissolve it. It may take some time if there are several layers to get through.
